GlucoPack 30 Packets

Amni® GlucoPak™, provided by Douglas Laboratories®, is a

potent and comprehensive dietary supplementation program in

two daily packets, each containing 3 Basic Preventive®5

tablets, 2 Glucoset™ capsules, 1 Opti-EPA™ softgel, and 1

Borage Seed Oil softgel. All components of GlucoPak are free

of yeast; corn; wheat; sugar or other sweeteners; artificial

colors, flavors or preservatives.

Normal blood glucose levels are between 70 and 120 mg/dL.

Insulin and glucagon are the primary hormones that regulate

blood glucose levels by influencing hepatic glucose production

and extrahepatic glucose utilization. In diabetic patients, blood

glucose control is impaired or lost either because insulin

production by the pancreatic beta-cells is insufficient (type I or

insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus) or because the extrahepatic

tissues have become insensitive to normal insulin levels (type II

or non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus). In both cases,

blood glucose can rise several-fold above normal values,

resulting in urinary glucose losses, protein glycosylation,

hyperlipidemia, and other complications. This can lead to

serious clinical consequences, such as cataract, cardiovascular

disease, impaired microcirculation, renal disease and

neurological disorders.

Research has shown that insulin sensitivity is influenced by

a number of dietary factors, and that good nutrition can play

a significant role in the normal control of blood glucose levels

and insulin function throughout life.

GlucoPak™ is formulated to supply significant amounts of the

key dietary factors which aid the body’s natural regulation of

blood glucose and insulin metabolism.

Basic Preventive®5 is a comprehensive, highly concentrated

vitamin/mineral/trace element supplement containing more than

30 essential nutrients and cofactors. Diabetics typically are exposed

to high levels of free radicals and have low antioxidant status.

They also have low blood levels of copper, zinc and selenium;

and have elevated urinary excretion of magnesium and zinc.

Basic Preventive 5 essentially combines four formulas in one: a

potent antioxidant formula rich in natural beta-carotene (from D.

salina), vitamin C and natural vitamin E; a high-potency Bcomplex

supplement; a significant source of bioavailable

calcium and magnesium; and a full-spectrum trace element

supplement, providing zinc, copper, chromium and selenium.

Basic Preventive 5 also provides vanadyl sulfate which is

important in normal blood glucose control.

Glucoset™ capsules contain a complementary blend of

thiamin, biotin, chromium, alpha-lipoic acid, N-acetyl-L-cysteine,

and standardized extract of Gymnema sylvestre leaf for targeted

nutritional support of glucose metabolism.

Chromium is an integral component of the glucose tolerance

factor (GTF), a naturally occurring compound of chromium,

nicotinic acid, and amino acids that is essential for proper

glucose metabolism. Adequate chromium nutrition is essential

for the formation of GTF and subsequent control of blood

glucose levels.

Biotin serves as a cofactor of glucose metabolism and induces

glucokinase, an enzyme that encourages cells to retain glucose

for energy production rather than release it into the blood

stream. Alpha-lipoic acid appears to enhance glucose use by

muscles by augmenting muscle protein content. Gymnema

sylvestre is an Ayurvedic botanical that may assist in the

regeneration and repair of pancreatic beta cells. Gymnema is

also suspected of reducing intestinal glucose absorption.

Select nutrients help to directly arrest glycosylation reactions,

thereby avoiding generatation of damaging advanced glycation

end-products (AGE’s). A derivative of thiamin (vitamin B1),

called thiamin pyrophosphate, and alpha-lipoic acid have both

been shown to prevent in vitro AGE production.

Also crucial to controlling AGE formation and subsequent

damage is antioxidant protection. Oxidative stress is closely

related to AGE production and is a known contributing factor to

many of the same health concerns thought to be associated with

AGE damage. In vitro studies of N-acetyl-L-cysteine have

documented inhibition of glycation induced damage to

pancreatic cells. N-acetyl-L-cysteine is a potent antioxidant,

serving as an intracellular precursor of glutathione.

Opti-EPA™ and Borage Seed Oil are sources of the n-3

polyunsaturated fatty acids EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and

DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), and GLA (gamma-linolenic acid),

respectively. Together, these fatty acids help maintain normal cell

membrane fluidity and structure which is important for adequate

hormone receptor function and cellular communication. EPA and

DHA acids also participate in the regulation of normal blood lipid

and lipoprotein levels. All of these nutritional functions are of

clinical importance in diabetes.

GlucoPak provides 720 mg of EPA and 480 mg each of DHA

and GLA, amounts that may significantly contribute to

maintaining normal cellular receptor function and blood lipid

concentrations.
