Coleus forskohlii root contains the diterpene forskolin, which activates adenylate cyclase, increasing cellular cyclic AMP concentrations. Ingestion of Coleus extracts, and the subsequent increase in cAMP, can help decrease histamine release from mast cells and basophils, leading to decreased inflammation in eczema and asthma, and increased respiratory function in asthmatics.
