Texmati is the most widely recognized brand of aromatic rice in the us and is frequently requested by name in recipes. When cooked, it has the appetizing aroma of popcorn and a subtle nutty taste.
1/4 Cup Uncooked Rice
Texmati Light Brown Rice: Each 1/4 cup uncooked serving provides 160 calories, 1 gram fat (2% Daily Value), 0 grams saturated fat, 0 grams trans fat, 0 milligrams sodium, 33 grams total carbohydrate (11% Daily Value), 1 gram dietary fiber (4% Daily Value) 0 grams sugar, 4 grams protein.
Cooking Steps: 1 cup uncooked rice, 2 cups water, 1/2 teaspoon salt (optional), 1 teaspoon butter (optional). Combine all ingredients in a 3 qt. Saucepan. Bring to a boil; stir once. Cover with a tight fitting lid or foil; reduce heat and simmer 20 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand (covered) 5-10 minutes longer. Makes apprxomately 3 cups cooked rice.
I love white rice and brown rice, even red rice and black rice and mahogany rice. This light brown rice is another very delicious alternative. Although I understand that light brown rice is not considered a "whole grain" by the nutritionists because half of the bran is removed during the milling process, it has the benefit of more fiber than white rice. Also, fussy kids think they are eating regular white rice, so it's another way to sneak in a little more nutrition.
Like Stacy, I lament not being able to purchase just one canister in my local grocery store to avoid staleness/rancidity that can happen with larger online quantities.
