Published studies document that niacin improves multiple cardiac risk factors possibly more than any other compound. Regular intake of niacin has been shown to favorably influence:
LDL and total cholesterol
VLDL (very low-density lipoprotein)
Triglycerides
Lipoprotein(a)
Dangerous small LDL particles
HDL (high-density lipoprotein)
Niacin use as a dietary supplement in promoting heart health is supported by over 50 years of clinical research. Sadly, many individuals avoid niacin because of uncomfortable side effects. Even moderate amounts of supplemental niacin can cause a temporary reddening of the skin, itching, and a burning sensation. This “flushing” phenomenon turns away many who might otherwise add niacin to their dietary supplement regimen.
Some people resort to taking timed-release niacin products to minimize flushing. The problem with this is an increased risk of harmful liver enzyme elevation, since the continuous release of niacin into the liver can disrupt healthy methylation reactions essential to liver health. This problem does not usually occur with immediate release niacin.
A brand new patented niacin formulation has been developed that helps to lessen these unpleasant side effects. High Compliance Niacin contains niacin plus the flavonoids quercetin and luteolin.
Quercetin is a compound that helps promote a healthy cardiovascular system by preserving endothelial function3 and supporting healthy blood glucose levels. Luteolin has been shown to suppress dangerous inflammatory cytokines5-10 — which can aggravate flushing and a host of inflammatory reactions.
In human cell culture studies, quercetin and luteolin have been shown to block the manufacture and release of the histamine-causing substance associated with niacin intake. Recent animal research showed that when quercetin and luteolin are combined with niacin, skin temperature and levels of this inflammatory factor were significantly improved. In a small human clinical trial, unpleasant side effects of niacin supplementation were reduced by an estimated 70% in people taking this High Compliance Niacin formula.
Each softgel of High Compliance Niacin supplies 300 mg of niacin along with 300 mg of luteolin/quercetin flavonoid complex. The suggested dose is one to two softgels twice a day though some people may take higher doses.
