Rooibos (pronounced "roy-boss") is a broom-like member of the legume family of plants. It is made from the dried, oxidized young leaves and branches of Aspalathus linearis. Rooibos (translated from Afrikaans) means "red bush", which is why the tea is often refered to as bush tea or red tea. Used for centuries in South Africa, Rooibos is becoming more popular in Europe and the United States because of its lack of caffeine and smooth, mild flavor.

Rooibos is a mild, reddish-brown tea. Naturally caffeine-free, this slightly sweet and nutty brew can be enjoyed any time.

Suggested Use

To enjoy, pour 6 oz. boiling water over one teaspoon of tea. Steep 3-5 minutes, strain and serve immediately. The longer Rooibos steeps the more full its flavor, it does not become bitter if over-steeped.
