Spilanthes is an herb distributed throughout India; it can also be found in other temperate regions of the world. The root and flower head are typically used medicinally, however the leaves can also be used for skin diseases. Spilanthes flowers can be used to relieve toothache and other mouth ailments. This is its most commonly used application. The root is a good purgative. The plant may also have diuretic activities. Spilanthes can be found in two varieties, Spilanthes acmella and Spilanthes calva.
